How Well Does The Martin Yale 1000sc Strip Cut Shredder Stack Up Against The Competition?

We recently took a look at the Martin Yale 1000SC Strip Cut Shredder. Overall the machine is quite nice but Ill let you be the judge after you see the pros and cons below. Always remember that the stated specs of a machine do not always translate precisely to a real-world environment.

Security
This is the second lowest level of security available rated at a 2. This strip-cut shredder is a tad better than a level 1 machine but not a whole lot. If you are really concerned about the information on your documents then we highly recommend that you start looking at some of the cross-cut machines. The one benefit of the strip-cut machine is that you can shred faster and more pages per pass. Just make sure that you are choosing the right security level for your needs.

Shredable Material
The Martin Yale 1000SC Strip Cut Shredder can shred Credit Cards, Paper, Paper Clips, Staples. If you need to be able to shred something else then we recommend that you look at a larger machine and/or look for something with a little bit lower security (the higher the security the less likelihood that the machine shreds something other than paper).

Continuous Motor
This shredder is not rated for continuous use. That simply means that you will have to shut the machine down after a certain period of time to let it cool off. Now dont let this scare you away because most people will never reach that point unless they just sit down and start shredding and shredding and shredding. If you plan on doing all your shredding at one sitting then it is highly recommended that you get a machine with a continuous duty motor, otherwise youre just fine.

Bin Size
At 5.8 gallon bin, the Martin Yale 1000SC Strip Cut Shredder is a personal/deskside machine. You wont be able to shred too much before you have to empty it, but presumably you wont be shredding that frequently. If you will, we recommend that you jump up to something with a bigger bin size.

Throat Size
With a 9 inch throat this shredder gets the job done but doesnt leave much room for error. Your paper will fit in just fine but youll just need to make sure that it doesnt bunch up and cause problems. If you have odd sized paper, you may want to think about getting something with a larger throat.

Auto Oiler
This machine does not come with an auto-oiler and does not have the option to have one installed. Although automatic oilers are not necessary to maintain your machine, they do take the guess-work out of maintenance. Dont hold it against the machine though as you can easily oil the machine yourself on regular intervals.

Warranty
The Martin Yale 1000SC Strip Cut Shredder comes with a 2 years parts and labor-10 years on cutters. This means that you have plenty of time to test out the machine and make sure that everything is running smoothly. Just make sure to properly care for your machine and you shouldnt have any issues.
