Monty aims not to use his losers speech

It comes as no surprise to learn that Colin Montgomerie has written his post Ryder Cup speeches – win or lose. I was a fascinated listener yesterday morning as Monty told Gary Richardson’s Radio 5 sports show that his speeches were already written and filed away.

If he hadn’t made Titleist 775 CB Iron Set  as a golfer he had already been pencilled in as a young executive for International Management Group (IMG) – which demands its employees cover every angle for the sports stars and celebrities they represent, from writing their appointments diaries to negotiating contracts and writing speeches.

“I hate to use that term,” Monty said when asked why he had prepared a losers’ speech. “I’ve had to prepare a runner-up speech, or the non-winning speech. If the result doesn’t go our way I think it’s very important to prepare.

“Losing with dignity is the only way to do Titleist AP2 710 Forged Irons 2010, but hopefully nobody will ever hear that speech. The winning speech starts off with how proud I am of my team and the losing speech starts off with how proud I am of my team.”

Asked which American players he would have had on his team, given the choice, he had no hesitation in naming Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker. “They might not be household names to listeners but they are very steady – Luke Donald-type players who can play in foursomes, fourball or singles.”

Montgomerie, who overlooked Justin Rose and Paul Casey as captain’s picks was confident of victory even though his team contains six rookies. “You can’t consider them rookies as I was in 1991. I was inexperienced and in awe of may of the other players,” he said.

“Back then our Tour didn’t have the same depth and the gap between the best player and the 12th man was rather pronounced. It feels wrong to call them rookies. Martin Kaymer is a major winner and Titleist CB 710 Forged Irons  is so experienced out on the Tour. The Molinari brothers won the World Cup together and Ross Fisher won the World Match Play Championship.”

He said he was captain of a 17-team man team which included his four assistants and would be trying to keep everyonerelaxed as possible ahead of the first match on Friday. “I enjoy the Ryder Cup format and generally in life if you enjoy what you do, you are usually quite good at it,” said Montgomerie, who has played in eight Ryder Cups and never lost a singles match.
