Using the Wii’s online capabilities require a high-speed Internet connection. However, now many people have access to high-speed Internet of course they can use a whole new capability for the Wii games console.

What do I need to connect my way to the Internet? You have three choices;

1. Wireless router access point

Sometimes referred to as 802.11 wireless router setup, this clever piece of kit will convert your Internet signal into an invisible wireless transmittable signal which can be understood by the Wii consoles hidden WiFi Arial. If you are currently shopping for a wireless router then to simplify the process of connecting your Wii to the Internet it is advisable to be looking for a wireless access point capable of producing what is known as an AOSS which is short for air station one touch secure system support. It is also worth considering a wireless router which supports the new WEP or WPI, an Internet Security which will alleviate to some degree any malicious intent from your neighbor or someone close by, to poach your wireless signal for them.

Or

2. WiFi capable USB dongle or connector

These tiny USB connectors simply plug into your computer system via the USB port and send an invisible WiFi Internet signal capable of being recognized by your Wii console.

Or

3. Wii console or LAN adapter.

This small and convenient device will convert an Ethernet cable into a USB connector which can then be input into one of the spare USB ports on the rear of the Wii console. The downside to this method of course is that your console will need to be relatively nearby to your Internet access point given it is wired.

Once you have chosen one of the above options to connect your Wii console to the Internet you should soon be surfing the web and playing online games.

Troubleshooting tips and advice

However, if your Internet connection doesn’t work after setting up the Wii to accommodate this new signal do not despair, try these common troubleshooting tips to regain connectivity.

1. Ensure that all relevant sections of your wired or wireless Internet connection are correctly located in their appropriate plugs.

2. If it is feasible, transport the wireless router or access point or USB connector (if you are using this method) closer to the Wii console. This will help enhance the wireless signal strength and therefore, your ability to connect successfully.

3. Ensure that the router’s Mac filtering capability is turned off. Furthermore, check to see whether or not your Wii consoles MAC address is listed within the approved device’s listing. You can locate the Wii’s specific MAC address by selecting the Wii console information data set from within the Internet setting’s menu.
