Large, small, and home based businesses all have one thing in common. They all need power and communication capabilities to be functional. Usually this is provided by a surge protectors, ethernet cable outlets, wireless routers or other communication devices. There are common challenges for all of these environments regarding the routing of power and data.
I have had the privilege of developing unique business relationships with many different furniture manufacturers. This experience has provided me with a unique insight. I have seen the furniture industry grow exponentially over the years. This industry has been forced to adapt responsively to the changing needs for access to power and data.
Teleconferencing and video conferencing have forced top industry designers and engineers to come up with new methods of routing power and data through their office furniture. Modularity has become increasingly important. Offering work surface height power capability has also become paramount for most businesses and manufacturers.
Having power available at work surface height has also become a very popular feature of modular office furniture, conference tables, and acoustical panel furniture. Many top manufacturers are even offering power module and data terminal inserts as options to their case good and wood furniture offerings.
Office furniture designers know they have to accommodate these IT concerns. Challenges continue to change along with technology. I personally like some of the newer office furniture module inserts and powered carts that address the need for charging laptop notebooks.
Powered modular inserts are available for modular desks as small as student size. They are now a common addition to training room configurations. I recommend using forward thinking and vision when making an office furniture purchase, knowing that technology is moving rapidly. You may not need high tech communications or modular access currently, but in the future it is highly likely that you will.
Modular blackberry charging stations are also hugely popular and are entering mainstream offerings. Technology is obviously moving at light speed. Office furniture designers are having to adapt and migrate with these rapidly changing trends.
Most of manufacturers we represent are progressive and proactive. They try to anticipate and stay just ahead of market and information technology trends.
I recently attended a federal government vendor exposition at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. These expositions are where manufactures lease space to display their wares to the federal government.
Manufacturers who attend these expositions are highly motivated because they hold large federal government contracts. Most of their company sales revenue is generated by government sales. Their objective is to display, educate, and convince government attendees that their products are cutting edge.
Many of the products I evaluated at the exposition dealt explicitly with modular power and communications. Most all of the modular work surfaces and training tables offered the option for insertable power and communications inserts. Several manufacturers were offering miniature pc hard drives that were insertable as well.
Many office blogs and articles such as this one, provide answers to common questions relating to office furniture and seating needs.
