How do you connect your computer to the internet? Basically there are two ways to connect a computer to the internet, wired and wireless. These connections differ in a lot of ways and it usually includes the connection speed and limitation of the connections.

For wired connection, a computer is directly connected to a device that provides internet service. You may a modem provided by your ISP and have a cable that is connected from its port to the LAN card of your computer. If you are connected through a network or your computer belongs to a group of computer, normally these computers are connected with networking device such as hub, switch and router. No matter how they are architecturally connected, internet can be shared using just one account from your ISP. A computer on a network can share files; they are usually identified according to the IP address provided by network admin.

For those computers that are wirelessly connected, they usually use radio frequency to connect to the device that provide the internet. Most of the time laptops are connected wirelessly; a wireless adapter is built in on the system of the laptop that detects wireless connection on certain areas. Once a wireless network is detected your computer can connect on that network and connect to the internet, not unless a wireless network is secured that usually requires passwords or permission from the owner of the wireless device. Just like with wired connection, computers that are connected wirelessly are also identified through the IP address being provided by the network, they can also share files and internet connection.

Connection wise wired is more stable than wireless connection.

Wireless is limited according to the distance of the server, signal usually deteriorates in long distance which make computer fail to connect on the internet. But portability wise wireless is much better as long as it is within the radius where wireless signal is strong enough to provide your computer internet connection.
