Are the sucessful leaders your idols? You always dream to become this kind of person? If your answer is yes, first of all, you should know about the common traits of successful leaders.
Persistence
You may have heard the term, ‘Rome was not built in a day’. The same applies to success as a leader. It takes time and a willingness to persist even, when the going gets tough.
Ambition
In my experience, most people who prosper as leaders had the ambition. I am not saying that they had it all mapped out but they had the drive to challenge themselves over and over again. In some cases, they even had a low boredom threshold.
Fairness
We all have people that we connect with better than others and leaders are no different. At the same time, successful leaders understand that it is vital to treat everyone fairly and considerately.
Role models
Successful leaders are often people who are great at modelling the behaviours, traits and ways of working that they expect from others. You may even find that bringing out the best in others is one of the most important things to leaders and what really gives them the buzz.
Courageous
It’s easy to fall into the trap of putting your own personal survival ahead of delivering results. When this happens, leaders stop making the difficult decisions. Having the courage to make the tough calls even when you know they might be unpopular is a vitally important leadership trait.
Integrity
Integrity and the whole area of governance and standards might not be the most popular of topics. At the same time, when standards drop, it can sometimes be literally the beginning of the end for companies. A good question to keep asking yourself is whether what you are doing will stand the test of public scrutiny.
Respectful
It is vitally important that as a leader you show respect for others. Truth is that the fastest way to get respect is to give respect. When people respect you, what often happens is that their level of support for you and what you are trying to achieve grows exponentially.
The Bottom Line
Remember, being successful as a leader is not a right. You have to be willing to work at it. So where do you need to pay attention to in order to get more success?
