Nostradamus (1503 – 1566), a French converted Jew, is one of the most well known prophets in history. His early life is an important factor in establishing his authority in 2012 predictions.
Michel de Nostradamus was born in Saint-Remy on November 14, 1503 in Provence, France. He was raised by a Catholic family with a history of scholars, doctors, and businessmen. As a young boy, he received his early education from his maternal grandfather. His grandfather taught him to read, write, and taught him to speak Greek and Latin. Additionally, his grandfather also taught him the basics medical knowledge, which eventually led to an interest to that field later in his life.
Eventually, Nostradamus discovered and learned the ancient Jewish mystical system called the Kabbala, which is a teaching that explains the relationship between man and God. All of these factors was an essential part of his life before he left to pursue a deeper education in Avignon, southeast of France. There, Nostradamus focused his studies to becoming a physician. He was gifted among his classmates, surpassing his peers academically and as a result of his advancement, he was accepted to Montpellier – the finest medical university in Europe in 1522. Nostradamus was only 19 years old when he started and graduated from the university within 3 years. He later became a doctor of medicine during a plague outbreak in Montpellier, located in south of France and quickly became one of the finest doctors of the time.
After a number of unfortunate events in his later life, including the death of his wife in 1538 from the plague, Nostradamus started to wander throughout parts of France and Italy and made several stops in France to battle the outbreaks of the plague that struck several parts of the country. During this period of his life, Nostradamus started to publish his work. He began to compose yearly almanacs focusing on medical areas and astrology. This was also the same time he started to write the prophecies called The Centuries. His writings and ideas eventually caught the eye of the French court, and the Queen of France, Catherine de Medici. She approached Nostradamus and asked him about a prophecy about her husband’s death. It was rumored that King Henri II would lose his life in a duel. And as recorded in “The Centuries”, Nostradamus was right – King Henri ll was killed in a duel match.
Two years later, Nostradamus mysteriously died of a heart attack. Shortly after his death, his student published one of Nostradamus’ most influential future prophecies called The Centuries and has remained in distribution ever since.
